Johnson County is in the north-central part of Texas and sits on the southwestern periphery of the Dallas – Fort Worth metroplex. The county seat, Cleburne, is situated fifty-five miles south-west of downtown Dallas and twenty-nine miles south of Fort Worth’s downtown area.Johnson County, Texas!
The geographic center of the county is approximately at the coordinates 97°23’W and 32°24’N latitude. Johnson County has an area of 740 square miles subdivided into three geographical regions.
About Johnson County
The western half is a section of the Grand Prairie with the most common soil being alkaline loam over limestone. One third of the county falls in the Eastern Cross Timbers region characterized by acid soils which are either loamy with clay subsoil and sandy with loamy subsoils. The blackland prairie which is to the east is characterized by deep clayey alkaline soils.
The Grand Prairie region has grasses, cedar and mesquite and is home to white-tailed deer, coyotes, rabbits and squirrels. The Eastern Cross Timbers is a post oak savannah with some acreage under improved Bermuda grass and kleingrass monoculture. Cash crops of cotton, grain sorghum and small grains are cultivated in the Blackland regions. Also, pastures of kleingrass and Bermuda grass have been planted.

These parks cover over 500 acres of land with many dedicated bike lanes throughout the city, several paths for biking and popular Pirate’s Cove Fun Zone.
